Selling lambs
Posted on
The first batch of fat lambs went to the auction a few weeks ago and the second lot went last Wednesday. They are weighed and sold in groups and then the buyers bid for them as they are shown around the ring. The price per kilogram is now falling each week as there are more lambs becoming available. Some more will be ready in a couple of weeks - we weigh them (ideally over 40kg) and check to see if they have a good finish - not over fat but not a boney back neither along its loin and dock.
The lambs have to be electronically ear tagged too so they are traceable through the whole process.
They have provin (pellets of manufactured sheep food) out of a feeder - the feeder has small gaps so only the lambs can get their heads into eat.
